You need a Chiropractor on your Birth Team

Writer: Kindra WesterfieldKindra Westerfield

What should you look for in a chiropractor during pregnancy?

A Webster-certified chiropractor through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association would be the “gold standard” for prenatal chiropractic care.

Where did the Webster technique come from?

It was developed by Dr. Larry Webster after attending the birth of his granddaughter. He believed that chiropractic care could have a bigger impact during labor with a more specific approach to the pelvis. And so he developed an adjustment“for laboring women to help with the ease of birth." Dr. Webster began teaching other chiropractors this adjustment andthey reported that when their patients' babies were not in an optimal position, after adjustments the babies were turning into a proper position for birth. Having the baby in the appropriate position, helps their mamas avoid unnecessary interventions during birth.

So what does the Webster technique consist of?

Aligning a woman’s pelvis, balancing the tightening musculature, and releasing tension found within the ligaments that surround the uterus.

Women who receive regular chiropractic care, report

  • Relief from sciatica and pelvic pain

  • Shorter labors

  • Relief from nausea, reflux & indigestion

  • Less neck and rib pain

  • Better sleep and less fatigue

  • Less anxiousness
